„We've had such trouble here.“ A rarity even 20 years ago. Today, these buildings are becoming an integral part of tourist routes and destinations. This changes all the rules that we have known for decades.

Cozy rooms, dormitories, shelters

Today, they are a part of every destination in the Czech Republic and, in a similar spirit, they can also be found in other parts of Europe. Here we have a large shelter with a fireplace near Babylon, in Chřibe, under Měděnec and in the Jestřebí hory near Žaltman

Wandering the Boundary Stones

When we followed the border stones to the North Pole, i.e. the northernmost point of the Czech Republic. We were surprised by the number of shelters that, according to their names, Germany had built here. So it was nice for us to keep our heads dry, because we made this trip in the middle of December.

The Czech Forest is proof of that

Wandering through the southern parts of the Czech forest was proof of that, and we were already ready for it, so we took advantage of sleeping at Třech Značy and at the Radbuza spring.

It can't go any further west

When we traveled in Smrčine, better said in Ašska, where our main goal was the westernmost point of the Czech Republic and the Three Borders. One unplanned trip took us all the way to the Halštrov well. Beautiful environment with probably the best night of this wander. But what. We traveled to the westernmost point of the Czech Republic. When we were there, there was nothing here yet, so we slept in Germany, where there was both a fire pit and a shelter, but a few years after us, this beautiful hostel was built here, which is on the right hand side of the photo where I am sitting.

Paradise on earth called Rychlebské hory

One of the most beautiful places for classic tourism is the Rychleb Mountains. There is a beautiful background for us vagabonds and, above all, it is very little visited and probably the most famous Forest bar in the Czech Republic is located here.

Rychleb Mountains

Thus, these cozy houses became our refuge, both during the day and at night. Moreover, the longer we meet them, the more I like about them is that even these buildings have their own architecture.

Natural roost

These are probably most visible in northern Bohemia, where some overhangs are freely accessible and marked for tourists. This makes these evenings extraordinary, because many people can gather here and talk about experiences together. The next photo is from Slezko, where we slept in a former tomb that is used for these purposes.

Krkonoše mountains under siege of hostels

This surprised us quite a bit when we were making the transition from the Krkonoše Mountains to the Jestřebí Mountains, so we met one hostel after another. Although we originally had different sleeping plans, we ended up spending one evening in one of them.

They are already in micro-regions as well

We visited the Jihlav district near the town of Betlé Třešt. Where they are also and not exactly few. Which totally got me. The largest is located at Roštejn Castle, where 20 people could easily fit.

Maple under siege shelters

We continue further from Roštejn and these shelters are increasing. There can easily be 10 of them here. The most interesting one is located at the very top of Javořice. Here is a wonderful cottage with a veranda. There is seating inside and sleeping upstairs. I'm glad that this idea of dormitories, shelters and shelters is moving further, because then we can travel all year round without major problems, and for others it's a good tip or a challenge to go out.
